UK Casino Scammers Get to Keep Winnings

The BBC has a report about the group of scammers who used modified cell phones outfitted with laser tracking technology to predict the likely winning numbers on a roulette wheel. They can now keep their loot.

Prior reports of the March scam perpetrated by a Hungarian woman, aged 32, and two Serbian men, aged 33 and 38 stated they took in £1.3m in winnings from the Ritz Casino in Picadilly. The high-profile venue in the former ballroom of The Ritz Hotel initially seized the trio’s money. But police said the case had now been closed, with no charges brought.

A good explanation of the truly impressive scam can be found here.

My team used to work exclusive European casinos like the Ritz, where gaining admittance is a big part of the scam. In fact, one such trip made for one of my funniest casino cheating adventures , wherein we decked out a London cabbie as a high roller and paid for his membership just to sponsor our admittance.

I am curious to see how the gaming industry reacts to the scam pulled on the Ritz. It is quite easy to make such a laser scanner scam illegal, or to clearly establish its status under current law. But considering the ubiquity of cell phones, it will be interesting to watch casinos try to deal with modified cell phone devices without overeacting against legitimate casino patrons.

In the meantime, congratulations to the guys who beat the Ritz!

Love the site! The URL for the details on the scam is http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5478,11596411%255E663,00.html -- there was an extra space in the link above, so it didn't work right...

Love the site. It's great to see people using dirty little tricks to get back at corporations who use dirty little tricks to get immensely rich by taking money from the mathematically challenged. Keep up the good work.

In the U.K. roulette computers are legal, they are frowned upon by the casino's and if found with one on you, the casino staff do not through you out of the casino or do they take you into a back room, you will just receive a letter through the post stating your membership has been cancelled. This is what we call civilization here in the U.K. They could also report you too grffin who will then attepmt to ban you from every casino within the U.K. which is probably worse for most professional gamblers than a kicking and a warning of dont do it again.

The ritz scammers were entitled to keep their winnings as they beat the casino at their own game and fair play to them if i could get involved with them i would give it a good shot as well. It takes a lot of bottle to take a casino for over a million pounds and i think the way they did it without "cheating" is brilliant.

I would love to be able to contact these people and would be willing to pay a lot of money for them to show me how they did it or to sell me one of their computers.

anyway enough said..........
